All Costcutter retailers in Northern Ireland will be supplied via Palmer & Harvey (P&H) from March, the group has announced.

The new arrangement comes into place ahead of the expiry of the current contract with Nisa, which ends on 1 July, and means that members in Northern Ireland will get access to the Independent own-brand portfolio and branded products sourced through the BuyCo joint venture ahead of schedule.

P&H has invested more than £1m in improvements to its Belfast multi-temperature depot to manage the increased volume and provide a flexible and local delivery service on time and in full, the company stated. Northern Ireland is a self-contained distribution region, and one of Costcutter’s largest trading areas.

Costcutter ceo Darcy Willson-Rymer said: “2013 was a big year for Costcutter Supermarkets Group and in March we didn’t just simply announce a new strategic partnership and joint venture, we also made a number of promises to our retailers. The news that we are migrating Northern Ireland ahead of schedule confirms that we are on track to deliver these promises, and the response from affected retailers has been incredibly positive.”
