Independent wholesalers revealed their ambitious growth plans at the recent IGD Wholesale 2015 conference in London.
United Wholesale (Scotland) is to relaunch the recently-acquired M9 Cash and Carry in Falkirk next month, followed by the opening of a fourth site, in the Newbridge area of Edinburgh, in summer 2016.
Speaking at the conference, managing director Asim Sarwar said that the new developments would increase the company’s turnover by 35% within three years, driven by a significant increase in the company’s symbol group estate.
With 275 Day-Today stores and a further 160 operating under the U-Save brand, United is the biggest symbol group operator in Scotland, claimed Sarwar, and is on course to be servicing 600 symbol group customers by the end of the year. The company will also enhance fresh, chilled and frozen food facilities at its main Queenslie branch and will invest in a fleet of chilled delivery vehicles for April 2016.
At the same event, Sony Bihal, managing director of Landmark Wholesale member Time Cash & Carry in Barking, East London, outlined the company’s plans to double turnover from £50m to £100m by 2018.
An online sales capability is due to be launched next month, followed by a second depot in 2016 and a third site the following year.
