Costcutter Supermarkets Group has recruited Jersey-based retailer J Mart Limited, which operates 18 convenience stores on the Channel island.
J Mart Limited, whose 18 stores formerly traded as Spar, will immediately enter Costcutter’s new Buyco supply chain system created with Palmer and Harvey.
All stores, which include two forecourts and four post offices, will be converted into Costcutter stores, bringing the brand to Jersey for the first time.
J Mart Limited said it was attracted to Costcutter by the extensive chilled and frozen products and the introduction of the new three-tier Independent own brand range.
Darcy Willson-Rymer, CEO of Costcutter Supermarkets Group, said: “We are excited to welcome J Mart Limited into Costcutter Supermarkets Group and providing them with the many benefits that our new supply chain offers.
“Our retailer proposition provides members with the best range, leading technology systems and extensive member support services that will enable J Mart Limited to further develop their business, and offer their customers a superior shopping experience.”
Nigel Robson, chief executive of J Mart Limited, said: “Costcutter Supermarkets Group has a clear proposition that perfectly supports our own growth and expansion strategy.
“They have the knowledge to meet our needs both in the present and in the future and we can already foresee how our 18 stores and all of our customers will benefit significantly from the new supply chain system they have created. J Mart Limited and Costcutter Supermarkets Group have a shared ambition for the future of convenience retailing in the Channel Islands.”
