Landmark Wholesale is rolling out the next phase of its Hot House store development programme with a target of 2,500 converted stores within the next four years.
Landmark has received investment from over 30 of the UK's leading suppliers in order to fund the project which it claims gives independent retailers the advantage of a professional retail package without joining a symbol.
The group claims that the retail development programme, which gives retailers access to Landmark's Lifestyle Express and Drinks Express fascias as well as store planning and design, has returned an average sales growth of 29% for participating retailers.
Landmark managing director Martin Williams said that long-term commitment from suppliers would help secure a brighter future for the independent retailers and wholesalers involved.
He explained: "It is a fact that the number of independent retailers is not on the increase and therefore we need to protect the sector and get more out of those retailers who are not perhaps maximising their opportunities."
Since the start of this year Landmark has signed up four more suppliers to the programme and is currrently in talks with a further 12.
Landmark is adding three retail development managers to work in specific regional areas, to plan and implement store developments. It will also retain the role of supplier secondees, which it says gives suppliers a unique insight into the independent channel.
