Londis has teamed up with supplier Minor, Weir & Willis to offer retailers a drop shipment service for fresh produce.
Following a successful trial of the scheme at six stores in the Birmingham area, it is now planned to roll out the offering across the country.
Category manager for fresh produce and meat Danny Grover said: "We're working to ensure we have a supply chain that can deliver fresh produce to our members. An initial trial out of our Andover depot and a second trial in the Birmingham area proved there is definite demand for fresh produce. We're taking fresh produce seriously at Londis."
Minor, Weir & Willis bosses have said they will deliver up to three times a week and offer free delivery on orders of more than £50.
Grover added: "The produce will be Londis branded and 35 or so loose and prepacked SKUs will be available to retailers. We need to get enough retailers involved and believe enough will want to take up the offer. The next stage will be to map out a supply route."
