The Low Pay Commission has extended its consultation on the National Minimum Wage in order to allow responses to the business secretary’s request for a faster rate rise.

Vince Cable announced at the Liberal Democrat conference earlier this week that he had asked the commission to consider how the NMW may be raised at a higher rate than current conditions allow.

In response, the commission has extended the deadline on the NMW from September 20 to October 11. Stakeholders who have already responded are invited to submit a separate response.

Cable also announced that he would launch a consultation on zero-hour contracts in order to tackle abuses in the system.
