Morrisons is set to introduce charity scratchcards in 500 of its supermarkets after signing a partnership with Rieves Lotteries.
The grocery multiple is one of the first major retailers to offer charity scratchards, and the rollout is expected to raise over £1m for its chosen charity partner, Sue Ryder.
Rieves is licensed by the Gambling Commission to promote lotteries on behalf of charities. Its scratchcards can also be found in Poundland as well as specialist lottery kiosks in major shopping centres around the UK.
Rieves currently works with a number of charities including The Royal British Legion, Breast Cancer Care, and most recently Sue Ryder.
Guy Mason, head of corporate affairs at Morrisons, said: “This partnership with Rieves will really help make a difference to the charity. We are always looking to offer customers new products and the addition of charity scratchcards is a fantastic way to increase customer choice, with the positive feeling gained from knowing exactly which charity is receiving support.”
Steve Lyons, director of Rieves Lotteries Ltd, said: “The scratchcard category has quadrupled in size over the last 10 years and is now worth in excess of £2bn annually, with over one quarter of the population regularly playing, so we’re confident this rollout will be another great success and raise some much needed funds for Sue Ryder.”
