The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) has called for the government's decision to restructure the Home Office to lead to an increased focus on business crime.
The shake-up will see the Department for Constitutional Affairs take control of probation, prisons and prevention of re-offending in the next five weeks under the title of the Ministry of Justice. This will leave the slimmed-down Home Office to concentrate on dealing with terrorism, security and immigration.
The government believes the Ministry of Justice will deliver a fairer and more effective justice system and also reduce re-offending.
The ACS said that it was important the restructure led to business crime being placed high on the government's agenda.
Public affairs manager Shane Brennan told Convenience Store: "The Home Office has been struggling for some time and ACS hopes that this structural change will lead to and more effective and responsive department."
