A recently-opened Spar store located within a new £2m shopping complex in Lincolnshire has already established itself in the community.
Owned by Blakemore Retail, the 2,600sq ft store in Gainsborough was opened on Friday November 23 following a £300,000 investment.
Local primary school children were invited to take part in a food poster competition to promote the store’s launch.
The winners – from White’s Wood Lane Community Junior School – were invited to cut the ribbon at the launch and collected £50, £30 and £20 prizes. The store also provided pupils with fresh fruit to enjoy at break time.
The store’s 18 local staff, who were chosen from more than 300 applicants, are “raring to go”, said store manager Julie Sharpe, who has 23 year’s retail experience with A F Blakemore.
The convenience store is accompanied in the complex by Midland fish and chip shop franchise Starfish and charity store Barnardo’s, with two further outlets available to let.
Store area manager Mark Paddison said: “We have had absolutely fantastic feedback from customers. The store is a brand new build in an area that didn’t previously have a shop and we are really hoping it is going to do well.
“We’ve started on the right foot by getting local children involved with the launch and have plans for a major local community project to be launched within the next six months.”
Store regional manager Dave Parry said: “The store’s fresh participation is currently running at 28% and food to go sales are building every week. These are very promising figures.”
