Almost £250,000 has been donated to charities and local communities across the UK in the past three months through Nisa's charity, Making A Difference Locally (MADL).
Since the charity was launched in 2008 more than £1.6m has been donated to local and national causes. Funds are generated through the sale of specific products in Nisa and Costcutter stores, where a designated amount from the cost of the product is allocated to the retailer's MADL fund.
In addition to donations made to local charities and good causes, MADL donated £175,000 in June to seven national charities. It also donated £10,000 to the East Africa Appeal.
John Sharpe, MADL board member and managing director of Central Distribution Trading & Logistics at Nisa-Today's, said: "The MADL charity has enabled independent retailers to help local charities and good causes. This helps to highlight to customers a further benefit of shopping at their local Nisa, and helps to develop the relationship between a store and its customers."
MADL was named best wholesale business initiative at this year's Convenience Retail Awards.
