Convenience retailers and suppliers gathered in London earlier this month to raise a stunning £240,000 for beneficiaries of Sweet Charity, which helps former retailers and others involved in the production and distribution of confectionery.
The 700 guests at this year's Candy Ball, held at The Troxy, Limehouse, collectively raised some £70,000 more than at last year's event.
Booker chief executive Charles Wilson, who is president of Sweet Charity, said: "We are delighted by the success of the Candy Ball. Surpassing last year's total is a great achievement and we are really encouraged by the ongoing support of the industry."
He said that moving to a new venue and increased sponsorship from the industry had helped to boost the amount raised.
"We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their continued support and look forward to the 2011 Candy Ball and other Sweet Charity events," Wilson added.
Sweet Charity director general Patrick Davis added: "Events like the Candy Ball enable us to provide relevant care, support and resources to make lives a bit easier for all those in need."
