The campaign against a Scottish tobacco display ban has gathered further pace after more than 10,000 Scottish shoppers signed a petition slamming the proposals.
The paper and online petition was launched by the Scottish Wholesale Association (SWA) earlier this year, and the majority of signatures were collected by retailers in their stores.
The Tobacco and Primary Medical Services Bill (Scotland) has now entered its second stage, having been passed by MSPs in September.
Kate Salmon, SWA executive director, said shoppers were right to be outraged by the proposed legislation.
"The response confirms our belief that the majority of Scottish consumers are responsible when purchasing tobacco, alcohol and other age-related products," she said.
"They value the convenience and personal service that only their local store can offer and are fully aware that this could disappear altogether."
The Bill is expected to complete its passage by the beginning of next year.
