The creation of the world’s largest confectionery company is now complete following the acquisition of Wrigley by Mars.
According to Euromonitor data, the enlarged company will now account for 14.4% of worldwide confectionery sales, leapfrogging Cadbury at 10.1%.
Wrigley becomes a fully-owned subsidiary of Mars but will operate as a stand-alone company. As part of the deal, Mars will transfer its sugar confectionery brands, including Skittles Starburst, Tunes and Lockets to the new Wrigley subsidiary of Mars.
The acquisition was first announced in April.
Executive chairman of Wrigley Bill Wrigley said the deal marked an “exciting new chapter” for the company.
