Appleby Westward, the South West Spar distributor, has announced a 5.2% increase in like-for-like sales for the first half of its financial year ending March 2018.
Managing director Mike Boardman attributed the strong financial performance to the development, improvement and re-merchandising of Spar stores.
Boardman said Appleby Westward’s wholesale price reduction programme and successful promotions had helped boost its results. “Clearly, if our retailers are buying more from us, they are selling more,” he added.
The company is also looking to hold a series of mini-tradeshows later this year, designed to help Spar retailers in the South West to improve margins, drive footfall and basket spend, and reduce costs.
