A 16-year-old boy has pleaded guilty to a charge of violent disorder following an incident in Bolton town centre on 4 August 2024, Manchester Evening News reports.

Several individuals attended Manchester Magistrates Court on Monday afternoon in connection with a series of disorders in the region.

At around 2pm on 4 August 2024, the boy was captured on CCTV throwing an object toward mounted officers who were attempting to disperse the protesters, the court was told.

The prosecutor, Tess Kenyon, stated that CCTV footage also showed him walking with the protesters while carrying a weapon.

He was also caught on CCTV pulling up the shutters of a store whilst others were going inside to loot it. Damage was also caused to the front of the store.

In a statement, the shop owner said he believed the shop was targeted “due to racism”.

The boy was remanded into local authority accommodation and will be sentenced on 2 September 2024 at Manchester Youth Court.
