Nisa and Costcutter retailers are set to have access to Co-op’s new vegan range, which the group claims is the “largest ever product rollout of own-brand vegan products by a supermarket”.
Selected lines from the new range, called GRO, will be available to Nisa-supplied independents and 2,000 Co-op stores from 8 January, while the full range of 35 lines will be available in 300 UK Co-op stores.
The new GRO range includes a vegan steak bake, a Kashmiri pizza featuring cauliflower, a mozzarella-looking vegan cheese, and plant-based alternatives such as the classic chilli con carne and sticky toffee pudding.
In addition, all of the Co-op’s beer and cider range will become vegan in 2020, adding to the 120 or so vegan wines.
The Co-op said its total food and wine vegan range now comprised over 1,000 products.
The Co-op’s Ethical Consumerism report reveals that the market has topped £1bn for the first time ever and has more than doubled in the last 20 years, up from £452m in 1999.
