Heart of England Co-operative Society is setting its sights on more store openings this year as part of a £6m investment programme, buoyed by positive results over the Christmas trading period.
The Society said it is on track to deliver a “healthy profit” in its Food division in its year-end results.
It recorded like-for-like sales increases of 10.6% over the festive period, with the Co-operative at Meriden - which underwent a £245,000 rebranding and refurbishment programme earlier this year - reporting a sales increase of 60%.
The Christmas sales success “demonstrates the success of our upgrading programme,” said Peter Fletcher, general manager of the Society’s Food Division.
Heart of England plans to open two stores this year and continue its programme of store renovations. Most recent projects include the unveiling of a new £1.3m rebuild programme for the Co-operative in the village of Long Lawford (pictured).
The Society operates a network of 33 food stores across Coventry, Warwickshire, south Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
