Making a Difference Locally (MADL) clothing banks and donation tins have raised more than £275,000 for local causes across the UK.
The clothing banks allow Nisa retailers to accumulate additional money into their MADL fund, enabling them to provide further support to their local communities while helping to reduce the environmental impact of unwanted clothing and textiles.
The clothing banks are available free of charge, and every clothing and textile donation is either sold, reused or recycled, so nothing goes to waste. There are currently 60 clothing banks at Nisa sites. £200,000 has so far been raised through donation tins whilst £75,000 has been raised through the clothing banks.
The banks require no maintenance from retailers as they are installed, serviced and emptied regularly free of charge. In 2023, donations from the banks were also sent to Ukraine and to Turkey and Syria following devasting earthquakes.
Since its launch in 2008, MADL has raised over £17m to more than 10,000 charities and good causes across the UK.
Kate Carroll, Nisa’s head of charity, said: “There are many ways to raise funds through MADL and clothing banks are a great example of that. We really want to encourage the customers of our Nisa retailers to use the 60 banks we have across the UK as these supplies are extremely valuable – especially following such international disasters as in Turkey and Syria last year.
“To hit the £200,000 milestone through tin donations is also brilliant and goes to show that strong community spirit and generosity still exists within our communities. We ensure every penny donated goes straight to some of the most worthwhile causes in the local community by working with our community-focused retailers.”
