The Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust (LTCT) has announced that applications for the 2024/2025 undergraduate bursaries will open on 1 August and run until 15 October.

The charity provides financial aid for the families of those working in the convenience, grocery, and pharmacy trades.

In June the LTCT extended its education bursaries to families of grocery workers.

Through the charity’s bursary scheme, university students whose parent or carer is employed in an eligible profession, such as a convenience retailer or a grocery store worker, can apply to receive up to £3,000.

The bursary can be put towards tuition fees, or other expenses such as course materials, equipment or travel costs.

It has been designed to “help families who may be concerned about supporting a child through higher education”.

With the charity’s core belief that everyone should have the opportunity to reach their academic potential, the LTCT hopes that it will help alleviate some of the financial pressure on students and their parents.

In 2024, the total number of bursaries awarded since the scheme launched is expected to exceed 5,000, totalling £28m worth of financial aid.

Professor Anna Vignoles CBE FBA director at the LTCT said that the charity is gearing up for one of the busiest and most rewarding periods in its calendar: “Our undergraduate bursaries see a high volume of applications year on year and with every approval we delight in knowing we’ve helped a student get a little closer to their academic goals.

“We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to continue their educational journey, and we hope our bursaries can help lighten the financial burden. We therefore encourage anyone in the grocery or pharmacy trade who may be eligible to apply – it could well lead to someone in your family taking the next step in their education. Make sure the 1st of August is in the diary!”

Alongside the undergraduate bursary, a postgraduate scheme is currently open for those keen to return to university, closing on the 1st of September 2024.
