Aman Uppal

Coventry retailer Aman Uppal has donated £250 to each of two local sports clubs after winning a charity donation of his choice from Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP).

With the Olympics and ‘Summer of Sport’ in full swing, the owner of One Stop Mount Nod store was keen to help encourage more people to take up sporting activities.

He was inspired to donate money to two sports-based causes after attending an event hosted by CCEP and Costa Coffee’s ready-to-drink range, which included a Q&A with ex-Olympian Derek Redmond.

Triumph, an amateur boxing club based at Tile Hill Gym, received £250 from Aman. It was established to encourage more young people to take up boxing and promote high physical and moral standards. The money will help Triumph pay for transport to boxing shows and buy club uniforms.

The second recipient is Taekwondo club TST UK, set up in 2005 and consists of 12 professional instructors who are passionate about offering high level Taekwondo instruction to all age groups and encouraging people to take up the sport. Aman’s donation will enable TST UK to cover entry fees for their fighters in regional and national competitions.

Both organisations are self-funded and are always looking for support to be able to keep offering their services to local people.

“It’s a privilege to be able to support two worthy causes in my local area. Both clubs have been brought to my attention by my wonderful customers in store and it’s brilliant to know I’m helping both local organisations and encouraging more people in the community to get active,” said Aman.

In the last two years, he has donated nearly £2,000 to local causes via CCEP. “I’ve always ensured that the money goes to local causes, particularly helping those charities that I also volunteer my time with, including Anesis Ministry which helps homeless people in Coventry,” he added.

Amy Burgess senior external communications manager at CCEP said: “At CCEP we have an emphasis on helping communities across the UK, and supporting our independent retail customers, who so often sit at the heart of their communities. Aman is a brilliant example of our customers who goes above and beyond, making a real positive impact in his community.

“It’s brilliant to be able to help make a difference to these two fantastic clubs in Coventry and we will continue to help Aman and other retailers back local causes they are passionate about. I hope we’ll see the Olympics this summer encourage everyone to try a new sport!”
