A Spar store in Clavering, Essex has installed an EV charging point that the owner says will “reinforce its place at the heart of village life”.
Installed by EV charging network Zest, the rapid 75kW charge point serves two parking bays and can top-up a typical car in less than half an hour.
The Spar store specialises in fresh and local produce, and underwent a major £250,000 refurbishment last year.
Store owner, Muru Visana, explained why installing an EV point was important for the business. “Having charging facilities here is important to us and important to the village. We want customers, visitors, and the local community to be able to top-up quicky and easily. As EVs become mainstream, charging here will reinforce our store’s place at the heart of village life.”
Zest says the equipment is designed to be very easy to use, and payment can be made with a contactless tap or through the Zest app. In addition to providing and installing the charge point, Zest will operate and maintain the facility to provide a reliable long-term service.
Robin Heap, CEO of Zest, added: “In the near future, we’ll all just plug-in and top-up where we park, and we’ll favour places with the most convenient facilities. Perceptive retailers who prepare for the future now are those that will benefit most from this sea change in consumer behaviour.”
