A Crowdfunder for self-proclaimed “rebel retailer” HISBE, which comprises two stores in Brighton and Worthing, has obliterated its fundraising target.
After a final push, the ethical and sustainability-focussed retailer, exceeded its £75,000 goal, which unlocked further match funding, bringing the total raised to £106,000.
Cofounder Ruth Anslow said: “I am very proud and grateful to be able to say that we have truly smashed the HISBE Food More Than A Shop Crowdfunder target.
“Thank you so much to every person who contributed and shared the campaign: the wave of support and love you have shown HISBE has given us an enormous boost after these very difficult three years.”
The HISBE Crowdfunder had 191 supporters, and received match funding from Aviva and Be The Earth Foundation.
The funds will be used to return HISBE to “expansion-readiness” with a view to opening a third store on Lewes High Street next year.
