Lucozade Sport Lite Summer Berries has been withdrawn from retailers and distributors due to “mould growth”.
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has withdrawn the product on a precautionary basis because a small number of the drinks may have an unpleasant smell and taste caused by the growth.
The Food Standards Agency has issued a product withdrawal information notice, which applies to both individual 500ml bottles and multipacks (4 x 500ml). No other GSK products are known to be affected.
GSK said in a statement: “In order to ensure that we can consistently deliver product that meets our high standards, GSK has taken the decision to temporarily suspend manufacture and supply of Summer Berries. This decision is effective immediately and we have already been in contact with our commercial partners to implement a trade uplift.
“GSK takes the high quality of its products extremely seriously and we are currently investigating this issue as a matter of urgency. We would like to reassure consumers that any impact on consumer health is minimal.”
