Home Start Hull - MADL - Coronation 2023

Nisa retailers across the UK were able to help their communities celebrate the coronation of King Charles III thanks to funding from Making a Difference Locally (MADL).

The latest round of MADL’s Heart of the Community initiative saw 147 charities and good causes across the UK benefit from donations of £500 – with £73,500 being donated overall, with retailers helping to organise events such as street parties and family fun days.

The Proudfoot Group in Scarborough supported 16 local projects and good causes with £8,000 in MADL funding going towards causes such as tree planting, community picnics and village hall events.

Valerie Aston, group director for The Proudfoot Group, said “Throughout Scarborough we were hugely successful for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations and donations were made across the borough.

“For our new King’s coronation celebrations, we were successful again, supporting 16 groups throughout our local communities, each receiving a £500 donation to go towards community activity.

“From celebrating together with tea parties, bouncy castles and games to tree planting, we are thrilled to have enabled so many groups get involved and join in the fun during this very special bank holiday weekend.”

Power Service Stations supported eight local projects and good causes with £4,000 in donations through the initiative with money going towards afternoon tea parties, a coronation carnival float and a party for Ukrainian refugees in the area to enjoy.

Claire Partridge, Marketing Manager for Pricewatch, added: “We were delighted with the news that eight of our nominated charities won the Heart of the Community Awards.

“The funding has given a much-needed boost to the causes we work with as they brought their communities together for the King’s Coronation - and what a celebration! We’re so thankful to MADL for giving us an invaluable support structure which allows us to donate to good causes at the heart of our communities.”

Kate Carroll, Nisa’s Head of Charity, added: “We received a great quantity of nominations for this round of our Heart of The Community awards with people wanting to celebrate this moment of national importance in true Royal style for the Coronation.

“We are delighted that Nisa retailers once again got on board with the funding giveaway for their communities which resulted in £73,500 across 147 causes being donated across the UK. It proved to be a real historic moment to remember and I’m so proud that MADL and so many Nisa retailers were able to provide a platform for generations young and old to enjoy the celebrations.”
